Lullaby in C

On the news tonight I saw your face

Dying in the sand

Whilst I sat and sipped my SC

In my green and pleasant land

And I laughed a little to myself

At the irony

That this thing we all call freedom

Isn’t borne from liberty

And they’re singing Auld Lang Syne tonight

With warmth and charity

May the sun return to light our eyes

And bring us hope and peace

They’re singing Auld Lang Syne my dear

For ghosts that walk the streets

Forever looking toward the dusk

With prayers for sweet release

Vultures sitting in high towers

Watch the needy starve

Waiting for their fatted feast

To be served with disregard

From merchants with their pound of flesh

No gristle and no bone

They’ll claim to be our saviours

Whilst they’re stealing our homes

And I’m singing Auld Lang Syne again

Without faith, without belief

That the coming of another year

Will bring anyone relief

But I’ll still sing Auld Lang Syne my dear

With the sinners and thieves

And wish you all a happy year

May we all find what we seek

Phew, well you've managed to rhyme. Perhaps you should rewrite this as a poem instead of its current form as clichéd greeting card verse
