Is my pain a game to you?

Is my pain a game to you?

A Poem by Nixi Hearrts

Is my pain a game to you?

“I’m starving,” is what you say.

No, you’re not. I am.

I haven’t eaten in a week.

“This is making me depressed,” you say.

No, it isn’t. You’re not depressed. I am.

All I want to do it sit in the dark and die.

“I swear, I have OCD,” is what you say.

No, you don’t. I do.

I scrub my hands raw every day because I can’t stop.

“I just want to kill myself,” you say.

No, you don’t. I do.

I’ve tried eight times and I’ll try again.

“Everyone is always bullying me,” is what you say.

No, they don’t. They bully me.

They push me to the ground and call me names and I cry because I don’t understand what I did to deserve this.

“I’m totally sleep deprived,” you say.

No, you’re not. I am.

I haven’t slept in days and I can’t see straight.

Is our pain a game?

Do you not understand how much it actually hurts?

You use it so casually, almost as if you’re casting off what we feel,

as though it’s not real.

It is real. It’s real to us.

Why do you fake it? Do you want to feel the way we do?

Why would you want to hurt the way we do?

Do you play with your pain like you play with your words?

Is our pain a game to you?

Don’t use a word if you don’t understand what it means.
