The Flower Garden

The Flower Garden

A Poem by KATHY SUE SILLS
"

A husband shows his love with flowers!

"

You never promised me a flower garden,

but that's what you gave me

for each year on my birthday

you planted a different flower

in our back yard in honor of me!

As each spring approached our backyard

became a rainbow of colors everywhere

there were roses vibrant in all shades of color

petunias, marygolds, mums, tulips, and many more

that added beauty in their own way!

I miss the times we shared in the garden,

watching the sun rise in the morning and set

in the late afternoon, listening to the birds,

crickets and frogs playing their nature sound

in a musical way that was so romantic!

Each day when I look out the window or

walk through that magnificent garden

my heart mourns for you!

I miss you each and every day

I wish I could turn back time

and have you with me once again

The day you died, I died inside

on the anniversary of your death

I take a flower from my garden

and plant it around your grave

in memory of my one and only love

I can almost hear you say,

"you never promised me a flower garden!

Beautiful piece. Another sad one, but still really good.

Very sad poem. My grandmother's sister grew a plethora of roses in Reno, Nevada. I always thought of her roses when I thought of her dying. I imagined them creating a beautiful floral spray for our casket out of her beautiful roses. Beautiful poem.

A sublime poem. I would suggest perhaps more punctuation for pauses. Since when I read it out loud I would lose my breath.

I like the Betjamen use of simple names overall a good item.

to cool I like the opening like the old Dona Fargo song. I love true sentiment woven into a story, to see and feel the love of another, wonderful story.
You should read my story The Forest That Grew From Love
