my death row

I saw god in the hall
so i asked in this world of sin
give me something to believe in
before all I have known starts to fall

 

I look around and all i see
are kids on drugs
and gun toting thugs
is this really how its supposed to be

 

is this the world you created
with death and violence
where innocent voices go silent
or was it simply fated

 

why would you put someone through this
watching their friends die
souls rotting from the inside
I feel like there was a meeting I missed

 

its just not fair
I am always just a call away
from discovering where my next friend will be laid
and those calls are far from rare

 

I am in the jungle where nothing will grow
where the animals hunt you
and the innocent are so few
welcome to my death row

 

I am just waiting to be pronounced
could be any day now
just walking home from school and pow
I wonder how it will be announced

 

probably wont even get a news break
just another kid dead at your feet
just another victim of the street
I am a kid not some snake!

 

how dare you let this be
where loss of innocence
is greeted with nothing but benevolence
its like you don’t even see

 

there must be a sign you can make
as i lay me down to sleep
i pray to you my soul to keep
but who protects me when I wake

 

as I walk through the valley in the shadow of death
I question if you still have anything left

moving. we all have the same questions i think...but ive come to realise everything happens for reasons we may or may not be aware of...
i like the fact that ur poem asks such 'human nature' questions. it inadvertently makes one think. When was this written?

For once in a long time I've found a poem that isn't like the rest. It's not exactly what I pictured being entered in my contest, but it's truly a work of art. Any read that stimulates pondering is well worth consideration.

WOW!!! I love this one. The emotion in it is so intense it just grabs a hold of you and doesn't let go and you can feel it gripping you even after its finished. The message in it is so haunting and sorrowful. For one to feel so hopeless and trapped and to have to bear such a burden through no fault of their own, is just heartbreaking. You really did justice to that dilema with this. Amazing job yet again :).

These questions are important to ask. Keep searching, and sooner or later, some sort of answer will satisfy you (I hope). I tell myself, "I'm not sure," and that works for me.
