Useless Anyways

Useless Anyways

A Poem by emma
"

I don't want your sympathy. It's useless anyways.

"
What is there to say, really,
to comfort someone who is hurting?

What is there to do, really,
to help someone through a tough time?

What can I say to stop the tears?
What can I do to make them laugh?

Can I say anything?
Can I do anything?

I can't say "sorry" and expect it all to go away.
I can't pat their back and expect it to help.

So, you can't say sorry to me,
and you can't pat my back,

Because, really, it's all useless anyways.

i love how this poem has so much emotion.
and although people don't want sympathy they need comfort at times, trust me i know the feeling just like i know
sympathy is useless in so many ways but that doesn't mean you should give up on that person completely
Anyway...its a great poem

A very thoughtful poem...
I think one has to differentiate between "comfort" and actual help - offering solance isn't the same as offering a solution, of course. In a way, though, soothing can help the consoled to regain their strength, or find a way to deal with what's wrong.
Then there is the kind of comort offered. To some, the mere presence of another person can be comforting while others seek understanding for their situation, or perhaps advice.
It's what one is really looking for when they want "comfort", and sometimes it is hard to find the right way of comfort because we don't know how to help.
At times we may manage to find the right words or gestures, at times it is not what the one we try to soothe is looking for.
I really like how you wrote it and how you got your point across - Keep it up! :-)
