entertaining angels unaware

entertaining angels unaware

A Poem by bob, small b. aka invs
"

based on a verse from the bible that says... "be mindful to entertain strangers, for thereby have some entertained angels unaware"

"

a wise man once came up to me
and asked 'why do you cry, sir?'
i said 'please solve my mysteries,
for i surmise that you are wiser
than the average man like me
who reels when faced with mysteries'

he stopped me with a fleeting glance
and replied before i had the chance
to tell him what had bothered me
yet he spoke right to the mystery

'the important thing,' he told me
'is that nothing's what it seems
for dreams are more reality
and reality, more dreams.
and steadfast truths are fleeting
while abstract things concrete
and certainty is what you hold
to make you feel complete.'

'but if you should take down these words
and think about them long
you'll find, though they are right for me,
for you they might be wrong.'

'so go, my friend, and find your way.
i have no pithy words to say.
i struggle just the same as you
so that makes you a wise man too.
and if you should pass by today
some poor lost soul along the way
just stop for them and take the time
to say whatever comes to mind.
it matters little what the words.
don't hesitate and weigh them
for the worth's not in the words you say
it's in the time you stopped to say them.'

that said, his eyes filled up with tears.
he embraced me......
then he disappeared

I like this very much. Wonderful words used wisely and nicely.... I believe that it is not always WHAT you said but THAT you said and took the time or smiled or nodded or invited someone in at some level. So many times I see surprise on a face when I smile or greet but then you get the smile back or someone's expression becomes friendly or somehow calmer looking.... We are capable of giving much more than we know... Good capture here. Poem on! haha

Not the words, but the time you stopped to say them...a little treasure I'll keep for ever.

If the best we can do is to listen, then that is what we should do ...

Love can be silent .. smiles can lift the spirit

A simple "hello" , face to face says, "I am not indifferent"

I guess .. :)
Dreams, words, actions are all part of life and the way we travel it, whether in skips or jumps or stumbles or glides, whatever .. tears are what ease the way, perhaps.. and we learn from the way they cure .. sometimes. That man you met knew the meaning of what IS .. it's the pause to look and love in varying degrees, one word or a hundred .. they all matter. You, dear man, have written so many wonderful words over the years .. but this somehow reaches into a community of writers who need heart along with sanity. Thank you, bob

Philosophic and made special by its simplicity. I was interested in how the rhyming pattern changed abruptly in the middle of the work. The message is clearly given with a sound message. In all, a worthy write asking to be read again.

I found no fault in it, I just found it interesting. In no way did it detract from the message.
I think you've really hit on something here! A wonderful, thoughtful poem.

Hebrews 13:2 "Be not forgetful to entertain strangers: for thereby some have entertained angels unawares."

Masterful words, Powerful poem that reached down to the very heart of the matter. Wise, profound and poetically beautiful

I have found myself crying a lot over the past 2 years. The smallest thing can set me off. I talked to a very wise man, who gave me some insight. He told me that, for me, tears were my way of praying to God, and I was finally in a place to be able to release years of pent-up prayer. I wonder how many people that is true for?

I greatly enjoyed the wisdom and wording you presented this poem with. First off it's always a good idea to treat strangers well, because that's how connections are made, and you might find yourself new friends. Second, they are completely detached to your own personal situations, your life, so if you long for good, solid input, a stranger is the best to ask advice from. You never know what wisdom they can give, but I've experienced enough of that situation to know it's very much worth it. Of course, you never should take everything they say at face value, because, well, as the wise man/angel in your poem states, "though [the words] are right for me, / for you they might be wrong.' You never know how they got their insight. It's just always good to listen, because it might be helpful for another situation, either your own or for somebody else who asks you for help. It always feels great to have someone take the time to help out, to listen. This poem made me smile overall, because of the hope it seems to have in people to do the right thing. Well written poem, I'll likely be around for more.

angels find us in our darkest moments, heal our wounds and are forgotten before long in the ebb and tide of our lives
