The Sounds of Nature

The Sounds of Nature

A Poem by Isa Ruffatti

‘Tis a new production, you see

Of unhuman sounds

that the human ear so admires

buzzing, chirping

barking, singing

prancing, flying

A bumblebee, a dog

No chains to hold them fast

Look how they live!

‘Tis a new production, you see

brought fresh and new

from the great Hollywood

warble, tweet

hum, yip yap

 blowing in the wind

A message of wholesome freedom

That every human heart adores

Yet we stick to square civilization

‘Tis a new production, you see

freshly banned and deported

by misguided misconceptions

A waste of time it is, it is!

clawing, shout

snarl, snap

break free

and listen

A waste of time it is not, it is not!

Listen to ‘tis new production

Turn a deaf ear

on square civilization

for a minute, for an hour

even for a single second

you will hear

the sweetest sound

your ears have ever heard

Listen to ‘tis new production

Your heart shall grow wings

Fly away like a caged bird

and listen to the wind

Ah, stranger!

Will you hear this new production?

Do you hear, this animal parade?

This sound charade?

May god bless you my fine friend,

if you hear this new production

as only few are ever patient

Only few have ever heard

Nature’s own orchestra

Listen well, my fellow

Listen well, listen well

A waste of time it isn’t

It is not, it is not!

To not hear life’s hymn

To kill his life and soul

To forget his home

Is Man’s own undoing
