Do your best

Maybe you are sitting on a distant weathered shore

Counting as the visions do arrive

Laughing for the reasons that now you alone do know

Doing what you can to just survive

 

Painting tiny pictures of the sunset on the bay

Planting seeds along a garden path

Calculating hours lost before they ever leave

Shedding tears beyond the aftermath

 

Serving up some coffee that is perfect to the taste

Collecting every dime that you are owed

Manning the concession at the local county fair

Shoveling the walk for it has snowed

 

Dancing for the mirror as there is no one around

Cramming so you'll somehow pass the test

Whatever you are doing in this world you call your own

Set your sights at winning, do your best

wonderful poem, very helpful poetry. Whatever we do, we all need to be able to try and gain as much confidence in our abilities as we can, and then go and do our best. I think this attempt at a piece of poetry that dose just that has been very successful........Great poem.....thanks for sharing

hi jack i like your poem, nice images and a good message, all the little things we do are important so we should do them with care. i hope you don't mind me saying, in the first verse, lines 2 and 3, i think it would flow better if you removed one or both of those 'do's. that's just my opinion though, other than that it's perfect!

What if I change them, they are there to keep the sylable count intact.
