Bound to fail

Bound to fail

A Poem by Jack...
"

Lost and alone, the brokenhearted.

"

Bound to fail

By jack

I crawl along this cavern floor of jagged walls and sculpted stone

This emptiness, a desperate frown to sneer at me so all alone

So slow the going comes to pass, my mind a’ whirl one thousand things

Of this my weary journey and the questions that the darkness brings

For what, do I confess my soul, in longing for the sacred light

As silhouettes befall my steps so desolate this anguished night

My hands and knees, the blood does flow, in stains to mark where I have been

Breathe narrow lines, of tempered flow, to this which I now face again

Images, a’ dance this place as my focus dwindles slivered shapes

Within my chest a heart does pound, aborted of the sullen breaks

To crave the air of mornings and the skies that paint the day anew

Yet still I sit here weeping till the streams they flood, the loss of you

I now have scratched the surface, opened wounds that creep in shadowed mist

So drenched in sweat of memories, I pound the earth with blistered fist

Dust flies, a rancid smell now coats my mouth in form of desperate pleas

Collections spread of fractured sense and fortune telling centuries

To what, I ask, do this I owe, the pain of built and leveled throne

Drunk of every peppered ale and stagnant drink of quenching shone

Take my life, my constant cry, for but this dream is bound to fail

As to the ends, of scattered realm and darkness now my heart does sail

Well this is quite brilliant, Jack. The line length reminds me of some of Kipling's verse, also The Highwayman by Alfred Noyes. Very well done, and probably the best thing I've seen from you. Viva rhyme and metre, Jack!

memories can make us feel lost in a dark cave...and this poem made me think i was reading Poe...wow.

not just the dark of it...but it's his rhythm also...it feels like plodding steps as most of Poe's works seem to feel like.

thank you for this ...

You're speaking to my soul with this one Jack...such a profoundly emotive read. There are so many images and feelings that are conjured up whilst reading this, I felt it in my bones. Perfection from first word to last...overwhelmed within feelings of loss.
