Imprisoned by a thousand miles

Imprisoned by a thousand miles

A Poem by Jack...
"

The long road to love

"

Imprisoned by a Thousand Miles

by jack

Bars surround my helpless heart

Shafts of cold laced hardened steel

Prevent my movements in the dark

Captured, pending my appeal

Damp and dank, void and still

My breath in torment flavor flows

A lock concealed just out of reach

Lost deep within the fractured throws

I stand for hours, my feet they hurt

This prison blocks my wandering way

Walls of stone and bars that choke

Forced behind here as I stay

A window small allows the words

To filter thru this iron trap

Tiny rays of sun appear

What all night long I seemed to lack

They tap upon my shoulders broad

Ask me if my love is real

Lead me to a locked front door

Make me smile in spite of steel

Imprisoned by a thousand miles

Incarcerated in full view

A journey long I must escape

To fall into the love of you

Hours on their winged flight

Flashes as they slip on by

Night to day and day to night

Faster than a blinking eye

Slow in sense, the same regard

If for your voice I wait to hear

Forever seems now way too short

As minutes built apart cohere

Though once or twice, or though it seems

Escape has offered me the chance

To touch you skin, to kiss your lips

The throngs of precious heart’s romance

So precious are these moments small

Hurt sets in as they suspend

Why can’t we possess them all

And not rely on thoughts pretend

My guess is that is not the plan

Or possibly the plan is true

Desire blooms in fragrant tones

Enhanced by my heart missing you

For now these tiny seconds race

Hand in hand we walk as one

Then in my dungeon once again

I’m placed when they are all but done

To linger till the time is right

Or so it seems the time will be

The future holds the darkest night

Combined with when I am set free

So now I stand here, caverns deep

My hearts beats only for your love

With bars of steel and walls of stone

And dreams my ceiling up above

This tunnel of enormous size

Does at its end provide a spark

A tiny glow that does exist

So comforting amongst the dark

The luminance of distance long

A tiny thread between our hearts

The nexus of a love so pure

A future hope it doth impart

Increasing light invades my lens

A shimmer in a watchful eye

Scenes of life without despair

No longer hide in shadows shy

The span is but my final foe

A measurement of many states

Imprisoned by a thousand miles

And so much more it does equate

Each bar is forged a mile long

Erect between my angels faire

This cage it sweeps my wanted path

For not I would be standing there

Embracing all my mind can see

Presenting thee with patterned charms

Outside this vast vicinity

Safely in your loving arms

The days I scratch upon the walls

Counting lines that lead the way

For I shall not fear anymore

While waiting for that fateful day

When we shall stand once more in love

Arm in arm, affection true

For that’s the day that I shall start

My freedom found in love with you

Those huge iron gates we use for supports around our hearts are certainly like a self imposed prison...could be real as being incarcerated for years and years..... chilling piece Jack, somehow you always get that gut raw emotion in there, love conquers all...

Thank you always for your sweet words, Holly
This reach to the bone, so very impressive, your style always let me fly, and travel.
my favorite lines:

"They tap upon my shoulders broad
Ask me if my love is real
Lead me to a locked front door
Make me smile in spite of steel"

The entire message in this is good...
the way you end it mostly, there is need for
freedom to love, and to embrace it fully.

Thank you Jack,
Sincerely,

Elisa
