Weeping watercolors, forgotten dreams

Weeping watercolors, forgotten dreams

A Poem by Jack...

Weeping watercolors, forgotten dreams

There, beneath the rubble,

the ash and the debris,

you’ll find a faint image

looking something like me

As I too stand, peering into the pile

wondering, trying to make

some sense of the torment,

though this pain is imaginary…

for I have strode this wasteland,

walked these barbed wire foot paths

many times in the past

and what once was pain,

is now what I am

and the silhouette of what is seen

in a visionary echo of long ago tears,

repeating through thorn crested decisions

and a true lack of self confidence,

dances on the acidic breezes

that engulf my heart

and paint my frown

in weeping watercolors of my forgotten dreams

Thanks so very much Noodle. I always appreciate your kind words to me and your friendship.
This is lovely and so metaphoric, using watercolors and their unique behavior on paper. When we look back, it is sometimes as if we are viewing the past through gauze, and the forms have no clear outline, no clear boundaries, just the suggestion sometimes of shape and color. I read subtle sorrow and while I don't sense acrid bitterness, I so sense regret. And with that, I can surely commiserate with you. Well written.

Thank you Annie. Thrilled you enjoyed this poem. Happy you stopped by.
The perfection of your comparison between watercolors and forgotten dreams is both reflective and dramatic. I envy your words, and loved this.

Thank you so very much for such a nice review. I am thrilled you enjoyed this.
I love the watercolour imagery Jack...so vulnerable, adds an intensity to the title...bleeds through and allows the reader to feel x

The watercolors weep here, Jack. An outstanding poem, but full of sorrow...

Thanks Pryde. Up, down, in between...I guess it all depends on the day.
A friend of mine once said: "A broken man is just an image of who he used to be." Your poem is very beautiful, but also very saddening. The first stanza was truly breathtaking. Everything that happened to us in the past, things we wish we could change, things we wish we could have done right, those childish, marvelous dreams we never were able to accomplish... It all carves into our hearts and souls and makes us who we are. But the more we think about what was then and what could have been, the more we fall through the cracks. And at the end of the day, when we look in the mirror, we see the person staring back at us, but we no longer know who that person is. Don't go to that place, Jack. Don't forget who you are.

A splendid poem, Jack. Pain shaping who we are - it does, as does so many other things. However, I felt this one. Love that last line and very appropriate for title as it is the summation of this fine writing. First stanza is fabulous, too!

Thank you so very much my sweet friend.
"And what once was pain is now what I am." Aptly written and truly felt. I can almost see the watercolors streaking down the page like tears running down a cheek.
