Another lonely Sunday afternoon

Another lonely Sunday afternoon

A Poem by Jack...

Another lonely Sunday afternoon

Another lonely Sunday afternoon

Winter breathes its chilled winds of splintered hopes

and browns sits where once played greens

Empty stems lack their beauty

Wilted vines weave fragile on weathered fence posts

As one shadow stretches this back porch

and another beer is opened

Staring off into nothing,

understanding this feeling in barren breaths

Watching leafless trees beg forgiveness

as gray skies paint my eyes

in broken twigs and braided fears

Yet this too shall end with sun warmed days

as spring makes its triumphant return

Still thoughts of wayward emotions fill my mind…

will I see this spring, breathe this air,

watch butterflies frolic in a nectar’d haze

drinking in the beauty of the season or sit here

counting rain etched floor boards

gazing at my eternal winter, by myself ~ unloved…

on another lonely Sunday afternoon

I particularly like the last stanza. Wonder if it is because of my own age?

A beautiful poem my writer friend.
"Yet this too shall end with sun warmed days

Those lonely Sundays make us wander to good or bad days. Thank you for sharing the excellent poetry.

I love black and white photography, especially of winter. It seems to conjure up the poet in me more so than color. I feel lonely at times, and sometimes it's all I can do to keep myself "sane". But writing certainly helps, and reading poetry like this is good for the soul...like a bowl of chicken soup.

"Winter breathes its chilled winds of splintered hopes"...it's beautiful, Jack!

My best,
Kelly

You're so kind, Jack. Thank you!
Its very chilling just like the beautiful picture that you have selected. I love how you have described all the various elements of the winter to bring that scene alive and cast the reader into that lonely sunday afternoon. Thats a perfect place to be except for the unloved feeling. Wish you endless love.

Thank you so very much Anxia for your kind words to me today. I truly appreciate your visit.
At least you spent that lonely Sunday afternoon writing a poem entitled "Another lonely Sunday afternoon". I usually just sleep it off.

Thanks so much my friend. Maybe I should have as well.
I see you opening that beer and lost in thoughts but good news is you will not see another lonely sunday afternoon with that feeling of being loved, I know you are going to write about how your sunday afternoons are filled with so much love, passion and romance. Ps: am looking forward to that poem... I absolutely loved this, another one of yours added to my favourites

You paint desolation with heavy strokes in this piece, Jack... makes me want to crack open a beer and join you on that porch...

Very moody, depressing. I thought at first there should be a question mark at the end, but perhaps it's more effective unpunctuated...

Thank you so very much Tami for your humbling kind words today.
The severe and unyielding imagery and stark description leaves a chill on ones heart, well done, good read.
