Layers

Layers

A Poem by jaime
"

a bit political

"

why don't we lie on the couch
throw on a blanket
watch a heated debate?
burn a Bush
roast a marshmallow
and toast an A*s

why don't we open our mouths
long enough to change feet?
let's just bite our tongues
'til they bleed
throw on a band-aid
or a drunk
or a mask

why don't we put on our lifejackets
and ties
and drift through the 9 to 5?
sink in our lazy chair night
harbor some anger
and anchor the future
with the past

why don't we keep change
in a jar
with a tight lid?
keep playing with plastic
paying with sin
popping a pill
praying for a bill
and a thrill
and cheap gas

why don't we paint a smile
on our other face?
lose an eye
turn a cheek
spray some mace
and run away
let's outrun a train
to get hit by the rain
and wreck ourselves
shake our fists and blame
the ones who passed

Why don't we accessorize?
layer today
strip tomorrow
cover yesterday with patches
of lies
patch our own eyes
and make believe
we're held captive
gag our own voice
throw up our hands
and surrender
why don't we?

This one is really, really well done I think. I love the third & fifth stanza's but there are lines and images all over this that are just plain great. I'm glad you mentioned this one to me. Tops.
