Fades Away

Fades Away

A Poem by jane reid
"

For me these words depict a time during which one reflects on the good that once was, when all that is left is darkness and a glimpse of the memory of what it was like to feel bliss.

"
Memories are fading

And time is slowing

Down with your heartbeat

Noises all around

Make you feel safe and sound

Until it all stops

Burn a fire and watch it die

Watching as the last bright ember turns to grey

All of the memories are fading away

And when I looked up at the sky

I saw you waving goodbye

You lie there taking

In the life you’re losing

Thinking of the only thing

That keeps you going

Burn a fire and watch it die

Watching as the last bright ember fades away

All of the memories disappear

And I looked up at the sky

To see you waving goodbye

Take a breath

And look at what’s left

Your days are numbered

Burn a fire and watch it die

Watch as the last ember fades

Has a very lyrical quality, like a folk song that is looking at mortality and how we need to live now before it's too late, because a death has given us realization. Really dig the fire burning to dead grey embers as metaphor.
