Regrets

Regrets

A Poem by Jarrai
"

Another take on the theme of betrayal.

Regrets

The setting sun seared Tom’s skin as through the desecrated temple he walked.

Gun drawn, eyes darting furiously, looking everywhere, but seeing nothing.

Memories flood in, like living reveries.

“Where is she? I’ll kill those b******s!”

Dropping in front of an alter charred, tears fall upon ruby stained rubble,

All hope lost, that revolver finds his temple.

Russian roulette with no winners.

Until her voice stops time.

Starting again with a tech to his bloody neck.

“I want the pleasure of ending your life today”.

In twilight only one walks away,

A story for another day.

This is wonderful. You tell a very compelling story in the space of only a few lines, and you leave enough loose ends to leave the reader thinking. Your word choice is wonderful - I really admire the way the sounds work together; it's a poem that's best read out loud. Again, you really know your way around rhyme; the triple rhyme at the end is a great way to close the story. Incredibly well done.
