FROM MY CHILDHOOD

FROM MY CHILDHOOD

A Poem by jeannemarie coulter
"

(into this world) i land on my feet...

"

     FROM  MY  CHILDHOOD

coming into this  world
i sent my feet out first
got stuck...
my  head shaped
like numeral 8,
not quite centered
multi-hued purple band
across my eyes and over my ears,
nose violent red and swollen
to cover 3/4 of my countenance,
with six inches of
bright red hair sticking out everywhere on top...

the nurse cooing
“isn’t she cute”...

one look
momma moaning
“oh my god, that’s the ugliest baby
i’ve  ever seen,
take it away!”

good thing
i landed on my feet...

jeannemarie, I too was born with a shock of red hair, full head of hair...my (brown haired) dad must have had some skeptical moments. But I've got to say that the little red-haired baby pictured is simply precious! (Personally I think most babies are ugly but in a few days they start looking human...and that included my own son). Thank you for sharing this wonderful piece. take care...dan

Best to land on the feet than the back. I agree. Always a pleasure to read your poetry.

thank you for reading and seeing the person within...
Lol..a cute little cupid doll with red hair...adorable actually..and really no predictor of beauty later on. But I think humble beginnings builds great character and the most interesting people.
