BRIDE OF GREAT PRICE

BRIDE OF GREAT PRICE

A Poem by jeannemarie coulter
"

another tale from my childhood

"

BRIDE OF GREAT PRICE

in pearlised peach gold of dawn,

spotted horse stopped to water his horses,

and caught a glimpse of morning dove

coming from the forest with a fine pinto mare,

she was singing in her pure sweet voice

and coaxing the mare along with a hand threaded in the mare’s mane,

in the pearlised peach gold of dawn

spotted horse felt the first stirring of desire

to share his life with a woman...

the vision was so true and wild honey sweet

he traded six stolen horses,

and two fine buffalo robes for her,

and that,

grandfather said,

to the many grandchildren

gathered at his feet as he smoked his pipe,

is how i met

and claimed your grandmother,

and,

she was...

 still is...

will always be

a bride worth a great price...

Six stolen horses and two buffalo robes IS a pretty steep price. But all men in love with a woman's soul and who would like her to be his for life would gladly pay a grand price for her to join him in making a life. And if he wouldn't then that is not a wise (or good) man, that is a user. A very original piece of writing, working the Native American lore into the telling was a brilliant idea. jeannemarie, you've outdone yourself with this one. Great job! take care...dan
