run-on

run-on

A Poem by J. Cole

hope you’re having fun getting over
me
getting over you
while it all carries forward moves on looks back and says good luck to
the wicked dying rejects in a world disgraced by their own opinions and while they
carry baggage from generation to generation and you all lie
we all lie and
we don’t like to get caught and we need stimulation insulation from the cold
when it gets too hot we force down the cold showers and chew on a block of ice while
the children have fun sailing in the bathtub in the backyard that we turned into a pool
and they call it a pool they say they are swimming they ask if their friends can come play too
and we haven’t the heart to tell them it’s just a bathtub and no one will think it’s normal
because definitions matter they mean something otherwise we wouldn’t have them and we couldn’t
take our liberties away but we allow them to be stolen and we carry around a bag of knives
because you never know when you might need to kill the voice inside you is weak it is
smiling at a mistake and it is costing us every relationship ever started but your family
doesn’t want to see you on the streets but they aren’t willing to pick you up
you got yourself there now get yourself back because the truth she isn’t telling is
that they wanted you to fail and were waiting by the phone for you to say
goodbye to independence and do not pass go you will not be able to collect 200$ for
your troubles because you never paid the ante she was crying all day all night while some
one else was holding hands with every ex she ever had every person who thought she was
beautiful and her hair may be extra curly with a side of thick and white strands might be falling
out as we speak but she hasn’t heard her own voice in months and no one is wanting to call
a broken statue because the glue isn’t enough she wasn’t enough she didn’t smile the way
you wanted her to when the flash was on and the storm had passed between the ring in your
hand and the one on my finger because the beauty of saying no is in the way you say it
everyone knows that.

Love the urgency. I don't ever really review poetry, mostly because I'm unfamiliar with it. But this one stood out.

Everyone of your pieces I've read thus far has made me big sigh. This makes me wish I had better words to describe it's brilliance.
