As Long As You Look

As Long As You Look

A Poem by Riley Bray
"

I'm just waiting...that is all.

"
Will you come to me under the starlight?
I wait for you under the old weeping willow
Silently standing in dark silhouette
On the edge of the river in the night...

My breath snakes out in white tendrils
Icy fire running in my veins
With the truth carved into my naked soul
And the crisp fall wind guiding itself through my hair...

And the creek streams and shines
In the reflection of the burning stars
And my spirit dances as it tastes
The nectar of this pure ambrosia...

Yet still I stand there all alone
Bathed in a celestial ambiance
With the flames in my essence as I linger
Almost warming the cold air around me...

Drifting slowly with enchanting quiescence
Is a colored leaf, slowly fading into the river
Pooling morbidly but with natural grace
To caress the tides...

And you know I am found in the shine of the starlight
Close to the void but closer to you
Softer than a hushed whisper
Expressed in the dead of night as soundly you slept...

Reverberating deep into your very core
Embedded inside of you so entirely
Corded with raw emotion
From the life I've had to leave behind...

My source long since caged
In the glowing kiss of the stars
Raining down on my gloomy figure
Falling delicately from the skies...

A shower from heaven, a blessed caress
To the memories I wish never to forget
For the thoughts of feeling so deeply
A hope I could never so much as consider to regret...

I will wait right here in the starlight
Until my last breath has come and gone
Following the flow of the river
As it shivers downstream and past the dawn...

Time will subside
As the stars lock you inside of them
And they sink behind the now sunny sky
Much as the fleeting beauty of a burning feather...

So promise to remember me, here underneath the starlight
For whichever path you choose to follow
Whatever melodies you choose to sing and ballads to belt
In reverie or memory of fantasy...

Especially in frozen mid-winters
And during warm, steaming midnight's
Like that night under the silver moon
When our souls fused and took flight...

Just let your eyes rise to the starry sky
And fix on the hidden constellations
Where always I will be
If only you look with your heart and see...

So never obliterate those fateful encounters from memory,
Those moments shrouded by the mist that fell around us
As we uttered heartfelt promises and shared secrets that had long been left under lock and key
Always true as truth...

So look for me under the starry skies
I am standing under the weeping willow
With a dream catcher as my heart
And your name lingering on my frozen lips.
Let yourself rest beside my memory
As it should...until the end of time.

This piece wasn't very easy to read due to the length, but I loved it. I'm easily distracted, and my attention wanes. But this piece kept sparking my interest. Certain phrases just stuck out to me and sounded absolutely beautiful. I like your ability with words. Nicely done.
