Happier Times

Happier Times

A Poem by Riley Bray
"

The simplest things can return to you happier times when life was easy and everything was right with the world.

"
Yesterday, I saw a child in the middle of the street
Lost in his thoughts as he wandered
And losing to the aging, I could see.

And I sat there
All alone with my mind off somewhere
Staring at this little boy
Who spoke of loathing.

And he smiled at me
Despite everything
Warming me, temporarily at least.

And I sat there
All alone with my mind off somewhere
Staring at this little boy
Who spoke of loathing.

A tear must have escaped to my cheek I think
Because all of a sudden, my heart was melting
And I had to clutch at myself
To keep me from breaking.

And I sat there
All alone with my mind off somewhere
Staring at this little boy
Who spoke of loathing.

He walked away then,
Back in the direction from which he came,
Vanishing on the road to the horizon.
And he reminded me, of happier times when I wasn't lonely.

And I sat there
All alone with my mind off somewhere
Staring at the place this little boy
Spoke of loathing.

A subject for which no child should ever have experience enough to speak of it...! What an awesome piece. You speak of loathing as if you are putting the reader in the boys shoes but also allowing them to see it from yours as well at the end.

Nice man...!

Your very welcome...!
makes you wonder what type of existence can make a child speak only of loathing. children live what they learn. a sad statement indeed, to know only loathing. this is both unsettling and deeply profound .a very touching prose.
