WHISKEY GOING DOWN

WHISKEY GOING DOWN

A Poem by Jeff Bresee

It's been a long, long time
Since I was yours and now I -
Tow the line
And try to find the words
To make it sound ok
Yeah, I’ll keep saying that I’m fine

I see you out at night
Across the room, I wonder
Do I cross your mind
Can't stand the pain I'm under
It burns me baby
Just like this whiskey going down

Yeah it burns me baby
Like this whiskey going down

---------------------------------------

With every sip I slip a little bit more back into your arms

As I dream of how you used to hold me tight

And I can’t take it… you’re so close and yet you’re so damn far away

So I’ll just drown it out again tonight

It's been a long, long time
Since I was yours and now I -
I tow this line

I try to find the words
God, there are no words
But really, I’ll be fine

If you see me out at night

Across this crowded bar

Don’t look too long

Don’t meet me eye to eye

Cuz it burns me baby

Just like this whiskey going down

Yeah it burns me baby

Just like this whiskey going down

It burns me baby…

Like this whiskey going down

Could be a great country song. But isn't it great how things looks great when the whisky goes down.

Very nice. I enjoyed the simile and the relatable topic.

Great poetry and song. I like those drinking and love lost songs. I listen to them in the Texas and Georgia Taverns for 10 years. Thank you Jeff for sharing the outstanding poetry.
