LESSONS UNLEARNED

LESSONS UNLEARNED

A Poem by Jeff Bresee

LESSONS UNLEARNED

The further I go
The worse I get
At what I do
And what I let

Destroy my peace
And set me back
Defining well
The things I lack

You'd think I'd learn
You'd think I'd see
The damage done
By being me

The
trail of tears
The bridges burned
So many lessons
Left unlearned

I understand all of it so very well...many a times we just think that now that's it we are not repeating that mistake again and yet so many times you find yourself trapped in the same situation again and again...no matter what and however hard it is one has to let go...the poem shows you are aware that every incident is to teach us a lesson and hence you already know how it all works...all you have to is let go...

This is an amazing, dark poem-you are a great poet!

I always hesitate to notice such things out loud. I'm glad you agreed. That my comment was in some way helpful. It is a very lovely piece.

Such a lovely lyrical write. The words fairly sang off of the page. my rating is 100%.

I agree, I wrote it without the last stanza at first and then couldn't help the humor jab at myself...but it does take away from the feel. I will change it back.

I don't think you need the last stanza. It's a beautiful poem and personally I'm all about the lessons. I have so many more things to learn. More every day.

Lovely.

Regrets will eat you alive if you dwell on them (said the woman with bite marks everywhere).......
This strikes a chord with me today especially. Very well written piece. I like how the some sentences carry over from one stanza to the next...I do that and sometimes I get criticized for it, but I actually like it that way. Nicely done!
