Suicide

Suicide

A Poem by jheetah
"

The views of an outsider.

"

Walking down the hall each day,

Flinching beneath every glare that is cast.

Feeling as thought all eyes are on me,

As though every whisper cackles about me.

It eats away at my self-conscious mind,

Wondering what exactly could be wrong.

What have I done to not fit their views?

The familiar shove against the wall,

The trip I knew was coming.

The loss of weight as my books are knocked from my grasp,

The surrounding of my fellow bullies.

As I wait anxiously for the bell to ring,

And will the horrible moment to pass.

When they'll disperse and I can press on,

Sitting alone, feeling as if no one wants me.

That I'll be left behind and forgotten,

Something that already rings true.

The mocking turmoil received for being myself,

The pain of having to contain who I am.

Eats away at my heart, my soul, and my mind,

Until I've begun to believe they're right.

All the rumors do ring true.

That there is indeed something wrong with me,

Until after many years of such anguish.

I decide its time to be free.

In a weighing option that means

Life or death,

Not that anyone would care anyway,

Right?

I choose the option I see best,

And that is to rid myself of this world.

It'll be better off without the likings of me.

This is my message to you. I'm sure you've heard it all before, but don't be a bully. Treat others the way you want to be treated. You don't want to be the cause of someone's death, do you? Words do hurt, be careful what you say to people, always remember this.

I was bullied throughout elementary and middle school just because I was shy, now I never thought of suicide or anything like that but kids have killed themselves to escape being bullied. I know how it feels as I'm sure a lot of you do. Which is why I wrote a poem about it, to get my feelings out to the world. Hopefully the bullies know what they've done wrong.

"History

High-level forms of violence such as assault and murder usually receive most media attention, but lower-level forms of violence such as bullying have only in recent years started to be addressed by researchers, parents and guardians, and authority figures.[10] It is only in recent years that bullying has been recognised and recorded as a separate and distinct offence, but there have been well documented cases that have been recorded over the centuries. The Fifth Volume of the Newgate Calendar[11] contains at least one example where Eton Scholars George Alexander Wood and Alexander Wellesley Leith were charged, at Aylesbury Assizes, with killing and slaying the Hon. F. Ashley Cooper on February 28, 1825 in an incident which might today be described as "lethal hazing".[12] The Newgate calendar contains several other examples that, while not as distinct, could be considered indicative of situations of bullying. Virginia Woolf considered fascism to be a form of bullying, and wrote of Hitler and the Nazis in 1934 as "these brutal bullies".[13][14]
Anti-bullying movement

In the 2000s and 2010s, a cultural movement against bullying gained popularity in the English-speaking world. The first National Bullying Prevention Week was conceived of in Canada in 2000 by Canadian educator and anti-bullying activist Bill Belsey. The charity Act Against Bullying was formed in the UK in 2003. In 2006, National Bullying Prevention Month was declared in the United States. The Suicide of Phoebe Prince in 2010 brought attention to the issue in Massachusetts, and sparked reforms in state education. The It Gets Better Project was started in 2010 to combat gay teen suicides, and Lady Gaga announced the Born This Way Foundation in partnership with Harvard's Berkman Center for Internet & Society in 2011.

A 2012 paper from the Berkman Center, "An Overview of State Anti-Bullying Legislation and Other Related Laws," notes that, as of January 2012, 48 U.S. states had anti-bullying laws, though there is wide variation in their strength and focus. Sixteen states acknowledge that bullies often target their victims based on "creed or religion, disability, gender or sex, nationality or national origin, race, and sexual orientation." Each of the 16 employs a wide array of additional parameters, the paper notes, ranging from age and weight to socioeconomic status. Of the 38 states that have laws encompassing electronic or "cyberbullying" activity, 32 put such offenses under the broader category of bullying and six states define this type of offense separately, the authors report.[15]"

I was bullied in middle school but instead of taking it I would further antagonize the bullies. I try and push them to fight and most times they would back down. This earned me a reputation not to be messed with. I used this to defend the weaker kids and tried to befriend those that needed a friend. Thanks for keeping this subject afloat.

Sad but well penned! I love it! Good job!

I'm being bullied too sometimes, but i just let it pass!
I now only hang out with those who i trust
Suicidal and murderous thoughts came upon me
And i thought about it very clearly
It wouldn't solve the problem
They would think i'm insane
My mother, my father, what would happen to them?
I would've caused them so much pain
Bullying is the devil's creation
It caused many live's annihilation
I hope messages like this could spread to the world
And let it be our armors and our swords
Saving us from the bullies
And saving the bully from being a bully

I too was bullied in elementary school. It was hard times for me. I never had suicidal tendencies but I did have murderous intentions. Sounds creepy but being bullied can bring out the worse and unfamiliar in a person. Well written.

yes, we had outcasts like that in our schools..both grade and high schools.

i had a bit of that myself moving from NY in third grade and starting over in an Illinois grade school...

but i think bullying is much more of a problem now...
this is an important poem from the perspective of someone who is there, feeling it, understanding it...

and the suicides do happen way too often.

this is a really important write.
