The Kiss

The Kiss

A Poem by Jim Hahn

I do remember that the sky
was bluer than I'd ever seen.

We sat upon the grassy ground,
with my face strangely close to yours.

Our conversation easy flowed,
but what we said I can't recall.

Why were we there, just you and I?
Two souls in quiet company . . .

And then, quite unexpectedly,
you leaned in close and kissed me. Long.

Your lips felt soft and warm on mine.
My, how you took my breath away!

Then I awoke with such a start!

Twelve minutes after three it was.
A passing dream and nothing more.

But
you stayed on my mind
all the next day
because
I could not get that kiss
out of my head or
off my lips
because
it may have been
just a dream and
nothing more
but
it was no
you were
so real
so real
at twelve minutes
after three
it was or
it is no
you are
so real
so real
still.

. . . .

We sit upon the grassy ground.

Our conversation easy flows.

Your lips feel soft and warm on mine.

It seems to me today the sky
is bluer than I've ever seen.

Still.
