Your Slaphappy Sloppy Solipsism

Your Slaphappy Sloppy Solipsism

A Poem by J. K. Beach

Last night you stayed up

way too late

It was a party of one"

            (at most an ungodly trinity

                        you, the self-patronizing queen

                                    of your perfect personality

you, the chip off the old funny block

                                    killing yourself practicing

                                    party jokes in the mirror

                        and

you, the apparition sitting on your

                                    shoulder assuring yourself that

                                    you’ve done nothing wrong… ever!)

It was a party of one--

where you made yourself slaphappy

repeating and repeating and repeating

“I’m bringing sexy back!”

in a much too loud a voice

over the one track

Karaoke machine in your head

You wouldn’t know of course

of your reputation as a sloppy friend…

constantly tossing others

like dirty laundry

on insignificant floors

making piles and piles of pretended concern

life’s not a one way street

and you know

It’s funny

there are two eyes in solipsism…

and only you

would find a philosophy

that allows for your

multiple

narcissistic

personality

disorder

Wow, Jeff! That is quite the poem... Really well written in my opinion and the imagery... Love the ungodly trinity that makes an impressionable entrance.... I like the repetition of ' it was a party of one' followed by these wonderfully described characteristics of social ignorance and denial.
The poem contains such determination culminating in strong finish!

I know the person you are describing, actually known a few of that person.

Such self absorption is uncomfortable close to the truth for many. Loved the phraseology, 'a party of one,'
'tossing others like dirty laundry on insignificant floors,' the 'pretended concern,' something which is almost always easy to see through.

Much enjoyed. Beccy.

I'm often amazed when I meet (seemingly) intelligent people who completely lack self awareness. I loved this and all of the attitude you packed into it with such grand style.

"mirror mirror on the wall, who's the fairest of them all?"

I like everything about this piece: the alliteration in the title; the title itself; the reference to the 'trinity'; the form; and the numerous great lines throughout. "...the one track/Karaoke machine in your head" and "making piles and piles of pretended concern" are my favorites for sure. The irony here for me is that I HAD a friend like this one time and though it took me years to realize it, I finally walked away from him because he wa simply too self-absorbed. Great write JK!

First the theme. It is intense because it is obvious the exprience left you with a variety of feelings, non of which are endearing. Then the Architecture of the poem which adds intensity as the line run on to the next "ungoldy trinity patronizing queen." Ugh! Not the best of the female of the species. For me however it is the essential aspect pointing to the essence in relationships which is something worth taking some time to behold. How much do we want to get something ou fo a relationship? That in itself is the wrong standpoint yet it happens so often. To use and abuse until we're done. I supposed only to the move over and continue with the next. Ultimately I don't think she was remotely intrested in you and maybe she couldn't as her needs will came first. Until the day...

Intense writing.

I will not be asking for her number then.

Thank you.

whoa!!! what a rant JK!!

Now the poem has great virtues on its own, but boy was I stomped by the title. A great alliteration my friend. which I cannot say faster than a turtle crossing my hall (and believe me we do have a long hall :):)

I have heard of the unholy trinity before of I, me and myself, but this one has outdone them all. A vile description of self-centered personality that is almost too grotesque.

A friend like this is not a welcomed friend anywhere. I really think that the picture matches the poem perfectly. Great choice.

Killer last stanza- i will never forget now
