The Debt of Love

The Debt of Love

A Poem by LeFilez

Jesus' payment in full;
Friendship and brotherly love among
All human kind:

The ship in flames!
Tilted its bow!
Under the waves!
The passen-ger's fear of their doom
It rang out loud!
Just like lambs bleat-ing!
    Satan appeared and said "grab my hand,
    And we will pass like sheep through
    This holy land"
Stunned, I listened and let myself be led
Through the human cries until the last one said,

       "This is not you,
       Wake from your daze"

The voice calm and clear had been
Clearer than it should have among the din
Right then I knew whose voice it was
It sobered my satanic buzz
And when I snapped to,
The demon's wings pumped
A thousand gallons of salted air
To lift us off the stern of the ship
And it blew back my hair;
I yanked my hand free from Ol' Blue
And fell back to the ship,
Fell back,
To get back,
To you.
