Thought from a Soldier's Mind

Thought from a Soldier's Mind

A Poem by Joe

How vivid and reinforced is my purpose in life as those smiling little faces welcome me home.

How beautifully the sounds of innocent youth penetrate my soul,

Like warm honey to a screaming throat.

Reflecting on life later, alone, I contemplate burying lead in my brain.

I could play with them more, longer.

I could be there more, and leave this uniform behind.

With regret, I contemplate that action.

But how horribly wrong it would be to deny the world those smiling little faces that welcome me home.
