a hanging

a hanging

A Poem by joshua deathdealer
"

06/2013

"
the rope is thrown over the limb
and I am brought to look through the
noose that will be my vehicle

my means to an end
the crowd gleams with anticipation
frantic in their wait they swell
and push violently towards me
hoping to catch a glimpse
a glance at the angel that will
carry me away from this torn summer
alive with havoc and disgust
to anywhere but here
the hangman grins, his teeth broke and blackened
"steady" they cried, readily I died

Another beautiful piece with stunning imagery! I have often had this dream...scary, but true. You tell a very strong and vivid tale, filled with such truth to get you there. To tag your readers along. It's amazing how honest you are with and through your work! I really admire that in a writer such as yourself :)

Ouch...a finale to feel, that is...

Unsettling but what I love about this piece is its sheer clarity of the vision, your description is crystal and moving hon.

A suspenseful write as the imagery grows until the ending words like "a hanging."

How do I love this poetic peace of art. This is brilliant Joshua, you have put all into this piece of poetry, of death and destruction, to a little bit of humor, in the end. I think that with you can write so well with perfect aspects, and contrast it seems almost ironic, yet you're selfless, to understand, a body and mind can be zero, and the angel is at such a moment, all you want to look for... exceptional write... :)

Profoundly dark and desolate, your words create such a vivid image. It says a lot about human nature....they hope to catch a glimpse. Perhaps of the angel, but more cynically, perhaps of a death. Well written. Lydi**

Describing the noose as "my vehicle... my means to an end"... it's almost black comedy. The dissonance between the tone and the subject matter, starting with the mechanical-seeming process of "the rope... thrown over the limb" is inspired! The crowd's reaction reminded me of a bit of The Handmaid's Tale I can't quite remember... something with a general sense of "What the heck is wrong with these people? What the heck is wrong with the world? Why do I get the feeling I might do the same in that situation?" Loved the poem, and thanks for your review of mine!
