Seasons of the Year

An Autumn mist rising from the pond

In the backwoods, it is like me with my melancholy

Moods during the fall,

I'm happy for it to be here and sad to say

Goodbye to my favorite season--summer,

Regrets of not spending enough time outside

Enjoying the sun fill my bursting heart,

as the fog burns off with gentle sun rays touching

the bent heads of the sunflower stalks.

I regain my poise as the leaves turn and fall

To the wet ground,

I drive down Lonesome Road,

And enjoy the view of the high colors of this season,

The varying leaves cover the moist pavement and reflect

Their dying beauty back at me,

But I still dream of the warm sand at the oceans

And the water's edge where I often view sunbathers

And children as they lie on their colorful towels,

The children are the best as they build sandcastles and folic

In the water afterward to wash away the grains of sand

Clinging to their sweating bodies,

The Atlantic with its warm currents and the white foam gathering

Along the shores in the early morning sun,

Vibrant beacons of lights reflecting along the horizon from

Another distant shore as I gather the shells the tide brought forth,

Inlets and pockets providing a home for that glitter

At nightfall.

However, Autumn has arrived and the view is different

All over the world with the hues of it,

Yes, it does allure with its contrasting colors and

Cooler sweater breezes,

Many people long for it and cherish it.

I, however, wish to keep it instead of the dreary winter

That will follow it,

Too soon.

Give me an Indian Summer any year,

And I'll be happier as the year draws to a close

With a chill and a white forecast for the New Year.

Spring will bring the renewal I long for all winter

With its buds, colorful flowers, and stark greenness

Yes, it is what keeps me going along with a warm cup of

Tea or coffee during those frosty, winters days where

Darkness reigns with the early dusk and the short days.
