Chapter 5

Chapter 5

A Chapter by Jemma Packman

At Indigo's home, Priscilla sat on the couch. Indigo shouts, from a different room, "Iona's on her way."
"How pissed is she?"
Indigo enters the room carying a shoebox. "Not sure. Don't care."
Indigo puts the box on the table and sits next to Priscilla. "What's this?"
"My Summer box."
"Do you have boxes for all your exes? What am I saying? You haven't given yourself time for relationships."
"Want to see this or not?"
"Yes." Indigo opens the box, picks up a small pile of photos and hands them to Priscilla. "Is that her?"
"Yeah."
"How old were you in this?"
"That one I think was taken just before my 19th birthday."
"Why did you ever think that was a good look?"
"I liked being different."
Priscilla looks through the photos. "You look really happy in this one."
Priscilla show Indigo the photo. Indigo takes the photo. "We were. At leat I thought we were. I was."
"How long were you together?"
"Nearly two years. It would've been two on her 17th."
"Younger woman. Huh?"
"What?"
"Who's the happy crack and who is that?"
Indigo looks at the photo Priscilla is holding and points at it. "That's Gaz."
"Cheesy pick-up line Gaz?"
"That's him."
"Why have you never introduced us? Nevermind, I'll nag later. Who are the rest of these people?"
"That's me, my sister Lexi, mom and dad, Summer, and the happy crack, as you put it, is my brother Ric."
"Your whole family liked this girl then?"
"Except Ric. He thought she'd corrupted me."
"What's he think now?"
"He still tries to set me up with guys." The front door opens. "She's here. Quick, put thses away."
Iona shouts from the door. "Indigo?"
"We're in the living room."
Indigo and Priscilla put the photos back in the box. Indigo puts the box under the couch just as Iona entered the room. "I can't believe you rang that creep."
Iona sits in the chair nearest Indigo. "It's her, Iona, I know it."
"How do you know?"
"I just do."
Priscilla says "What's your problem with this anyway?"
Iona says "It's dangerous."
Indigo says "You're overreacting. I'm going Friday to meet her."
"No you are not."
Priscilla says "She is and I'm going with her. I'm sure Reuben will be up for it."
Iona says "To do what? Look after her or see what happens?"
"Both, but I don't think she needs looking after."
Indigo says "I am right here. Iona, I apprechiate you're wooried but there's no need to be. Besides, if I wanted looking after I'd ask my brothers to come."
Priscilla says "Why don't you?"
"Why would I do that?"
"Extra eyes incase she wants to play hide 'n' seek again. And, if she borrowing, was it, Gaz's pick-up lines they must've got on."
"They did. Fine, I'll ask Gaz to come."
Iona says "What about Ric?"
"No way. I'll ask Lexi if she can come too."
Iona bends down and picks up a photo off the floor. "What's this?"
"Give it back."
"Where's the box?"
Priscilla snatches the photo out of Iona's hand, looks at it, passes it to Indigo and says "What the hell, Iona?"
"She needs..." Iona turns to Indigo. "You need to let this go. Move on."
Indigo says "No, I don't. I can't."
"Why not?"
Priscilla says "Leave her alone. You are not her mother, her sister or her girlfriend."
Iona says "So?"
"So, you have no say in What Indigo does."
Indigo says "Stop it you two. I haven't seen Summer in seven years and now I have the chance to get the answers I deserve. I'm not passing that up."
"No is suggesting you do."
Iona says "I am."
"No one reasonable is suggesting you do."
Indigo says "I have a plan anyway. I'm not going in blind."
Iona says "What is it?"
Priscilla says "Who cares? What are you going to wear?"
