Chapter 56

Chapter 56

A Chapter by Jemma Packman

Indigo walks into her office. Meredith and Zarifa are sat at her desk. Indigo says "Good morning, ladies. What can I do for you?"
Zarifa says "Did you get the name of that jewellers yet?"
"No. I've been distracted."
Meredith says "She's that good?"
Indigo smiles. "Better."
Zarifa says "Ok, anyway, the original file is still an active case."
Indigo sits in her chair. "How?"
"It's an attempted murder case. If she hadn't have been found when she was, she would have died."
"Where was she found?"
"Behind Starbucks on Main Street, by a worker taking out the trash."
"Was that where it happened?"
"Why?"
"There was a small family run jewellers on the corner of Main and twelveth. I can't remember the name of it but I think it's still there."
"I'll look into it."
Zarifa leaves. Meredith says "How are you?"
Indigo says "Good."
"You're not pissed I took this from you?"
"I won't lie, I was. But after talking to Summer, I undertand why you did."
"You talked to her about this?" Indigo nods. "What did she say?"
"She's not happy, but she accepts it. On one condition."
"Which is?"
"I don't see photos."
"That works out well then, doesn't it?"
"I guess so. Is there anything else I should know?"
"Indigo, did you know Summer got pregnant because of this?"
"Yes. I told you before. She kept her son and I promised to keep them both safe. I can't, and I won't use Ethan as evidence."
"Was it Summer and her kid that visited you yesterday?"
"Yes. Ethan wanted to bring me the details of his careers week. Speaking of, I need a day next week and also finish early this Friday. Will that be ok?"
"Of course. You know, you still have holidays owing? Lots of them."
"I know. You keep reminding me."
"Maybe now you'll listen."
"You never know."
"I would still like to meet her. There must be something special about this girl to make you take a break."
Meredith leaves. "Without her, I was focussed. With her, I'm skipping work, and my boss still likes her. Only Summer could manage that."
