Chapter 81

Chapter 81

A Chapter by Jemma Packman

Indigo in her living room, working in her laptop. There’s a knock on the door. Indigo puts her laptop on the table and answers the door. Yeardleigh and Moxie are outside. Yeardleigh is holding a box. Indigo says “Hi. I wasn’t expecting you. Come in.”

Yeardleigh and Moxie enter. Indigo closes the door. Yeardleigh puts the box on the table and says “I’m sorry, but Mrs Platt asked me to bring these to you.”

“Thanks. What is it?”

“Some of her cases. She’s totally focussed on Summer right now.”

“How’s that going?”

“You know I can’t tell you, Indigo.”

“I know. I shouldn’t have asked.”

“It must be hard. I’m sorry I can’t help.”

“It’s ok. How are things with you?”

“Good. Can I use your bathroom?”

“Upstairs, second door on the right.” Yeardleigh goes upstairs. “You’re quiet, Moxie. Something wrong?”

Moxie says “No.”

“You can tell me, I’m still your lawyer.”

“She’s crushing again.”

“Isn’t that a good thing?”

“For her. For me, it’s a nightmare.”

“How so?”

“Do you know how annoying it is? Iona this. Iona that. Why hasn’t she called? Should I call her? I haven’t even met the woman and she’s getting on my nerves.”

“Did you talk to her about things?”

“No, and I’m not going to. We’re good how we are. I don’t think of her like that.”

“Then why are you mad?”

“I’m not mad. I’m concerned. When she falls, she falls hard and fast. It’s hard picking her back up.”

“If you want to meet Iona, come to Summer’s birthday party on Saturday, with Yeardleigh.”

“Why would I do that?”

“Does she not deserve the same questions I got?”

“Yes, she does.”

“So, you’ll be there?”

“Ask Yeardleigh.”

Yeardleigh says “Ask me what?”

Indigo says “To come to Summer’s birthday party Saturday.”

“But we don’t really know her.”

Moxie says “Then we should go so we can get to know her.”

“I don’t know.”

Indigo says “Iona will be there.”

Moxie rolls her eyes. “Iona knows Summer?”

“In a fashion.”

Moxie laughs. Yeardleigh mumbles. Moxie says “What was that?”

Yeardleigh says “We’ll go.”

Indigo says “Great. Should I text you the details?”

“Or call. Whatever’s easier. We should go. Come on, Mox.”

Yeardleigh leaves. Moxie says “I guess we’ll see you Saturday.”

Indigo says “I guess you will.”

Moxie leaves.
