Forgotten
By: J. A. Stevens

I am a man in the dark
Lost, lonely and forsaken
Longing for life or for death
Mired in regret for the road not taken

I am a man without hope
Bent and rent and distorted
Drowning in life’s shallow pool
Weighed down by fate, my endeavors all thwarted

A dirty old homeless man
Unwashed, unshaven and poor
The cup in my hand empty
A living corpse slain in the poverty war

A man yet I still remain
In colorless grey attire
Why have you forgotten me
And warm your cold hands on my funeral pyre

How often we look past those less fortunate than us, or worse, purposely avoid them as though they had a disease. Having had the pleasure in my life to have formed some very meaningful relationships with "wanderers", I think you summed up their emotions beautifully. A very nice write.
