Jump off the cliff

Jump off the cliff

A Story by Jon Roggie

Something from my teenage years.
Summer was interesting.
Adolescents becoming adults.
Of course in our belief of immortality,
 we have to test it.
It is only a thirty foot drop,
but you do have to clear the rocks.
You can't just step off the cliff.
You have to run.
Launch yourself,
 and wonder.
Cool water was precious.
 Fear sweat washed away.
Resting in the water,
knowing you have to climb the hill,
if only to get your sandals.
Reach the top.
Smile.
I can do it.
Dive off the cliff again.
