Seeing you beside me

Seeing you beside me

A Poem by Juan Victor

Sleep has taken you.

And as you lay still,
I come to wonder why you are beside me.

With all the beds in the world,
your body rests in mine.

With the world having so much more to offer,
you've taken what meager offerings I have.

One last look before I sleep.

Long, black river of hair across your breasts.
Flowing

        down
                 to your diaphragm

                                                   like a waterfall.

The softest breaths,
The slowest heart beat.

As I lay right beside you,
I fall asleep.

How funny is it that
sleeping wakes me up from my dream.
