Insincere Apologies.

Insincere Apologies.

A Poem by Jules
"

Third poetry attempt.

"

I’m not a Barbie doll;
I do not answer to your beck and call.
I’m not an anorexic piece of plastic;
and no, I’m not always enthusiastic.
I wear what I want;
You can’t change my style like you can’t change a typewriter font.
I’m sorry.

I’m not Comcast On-Demand;
I’m allowed to take my own stand.
No, I’m not going to do everything the second you ask;
why don’t you do your own stupid task?
I don’t do whatever you want;
I’m sorry you can’t take this in a manner that’s nonchalant.
I’m sorry.

I’m not my little sister;
you laugh at this like it’s a silly tongue twister.
I hate sports;
I don’t look good in shorts.
You say that that’s not what you want;
and I hope that thought does truly haunt.
I’m sorry.

The truth though, is that I’m not sorry.
I don’t have reason to be filled with repent.
For it’s you that should suffer with regret.
I’ve done nothing but stayed true to myself.
Most mothers would be thrilled with that.
But you?
No.
I’m not sorry.

This is cool. I love how it rhymes, and how true it is. People often want us to change in order to make their situations better. They also think they can control us, but I love how you show that they can't. We each have the ability to make our own choices. I also love how you added, I'm not sorry, because it shows that we have no need to apologize for being ourselves if we are our best self.
