Speech Impediment

Speech Impediment

A Poem by Julia Ledo
"

I like this boy a whole lot

"
You are the second guy I've fallen for with a
Speech
Speech
Speech
Impediment
And I keep having a bit of a
Reach
Reach
Reach
Impediment
Because this time
You and I
Are dealing with an across the
Street
Street
Street
Impediment
An 'I can't move my
Feet
Feet
Feet'
Impediment
Because we don't run in the same circles
And I hardly run at all
But sometimes we run into each other
When we're walking down the hall
And the monarchs are in my chest
As soon as my eyes rest on your face
And finally our pace just syncs for a moment
Sometimes its like a
Beat
Beat
Beat
Impediment
Where my hearts stopped and my brain's got this
Retreat
Retreat
Retreat
Impediment
But just the other day
When I had a
Defeat
Defeat
Defeat
Impediment
I spoke up
Which I never do
cause my words get choked up every now and again too
And I wasn't sure if you heard the alarms in my head
or understood how red I turned when I saw you smile.
Oh a
Sweet
Sweet
Sweet
Impediment
Because Moses parted the red sea with a stutter
And I who can speak just fine
gather Daniel in the lions den courage just to utter ... hi.
Kind of a
Speak
Speak
Speak
Impediment
Because you see I give you credit
You're words are a book that I haven't read yet
Because my eyes get caught on the lines that make you and I smile
And if I'm honest a bit nervous
And when my knees knock together
I feel like I will never get over this
Weak
Weak
Weak
Impediment
You see it's kinda funny
Because while you have a
Speech
Speech
Speech
Impediment
When I'm around you I can hardly speak

this is so creative and cool. love the biblical references about having courage, no matter what. so inspirational - such things do not have to stop us or stand in our way. follow your heart and you can never go wrong. great write!

Wow. This captures those first introduction(s) of ourselves to our crush/love quite cleverly. I love your lines:
"You're words are a book that I haven't read yet
Because my eyes get caught on the lines that make you and I smile"

These lines, in particular, are constructed wonderfully. They capture the essence of those first moments of love, aka new relationship syndrome. Beautifully done. (They also remind me of my first encounter with a new book when skimming through them at a library or bookstore.)

fantastic use of repetition and really clever wording...that stuttering feeling of just not being able to get the words out...they climb up the throat but are impeded just as they reach the lips..
