Truckies lamentA Poem by Julie McCarthy (juliespenhere)The large trucks on my recent road trip throughout nsw inspired me
Making my way back to you
The long grey bitumen The sun does burn Along the lonesome blue and grey Scatters of green Mostly grey blur fast Through my side of eye My speed it's high I'll pass this car and that Along the way I see the tragic sight The road kill of Kangaroo and wombat Who died in vain But many do claim To heed the signs Of kangaroo on next 9 km there I stop at cafe sip a sour old coffee there I ring you up Just to hear your breath Your voice it wanders it lingers It teases my wind blown long Truckee hair I turn my radio up loud Of course Elvis or Denver or willie Nelson I hum to now I whistle your name I purse my lips The road is hot Just like an eclipse The temp reaches 42 My brow so hot My heart so yearning To give you my love I'm coming home dear To kiss your long wet hair I imagine you standing By our beer filled ice box there At last I'm home I reach for you Your soft bosom and hair Tease and tickle my beard I'll stay with you till dawn has come Then reach for keys That lay over there Beckoning me to the open hot road The road I love Though I love you too My open hot road It wins me now You kiss me sweet I'm gone again With the wind in my Long Truckee hair © 2017 Julie McCarthy (juliespenhere) |
