coffees with liquor

coffees with liquor

A Poem by Juliespenhere.
"

imaginary coffee shop bar maybe in paris or ny or who knows? you make the place I make the coffee

"
they walked into their  smoky café / bar
their favourite one they frequented
the news was on the radio
dr phil blubbered on overhead t v
someones phone played Dylan
someone else was shouting
on theirs
on speaker loud
someone else was crying in the corner
with rum and brandy and coffee
and stale cigarettes fell to floor
what a mix
the waitress chewed her bubble gum
she came to take the order
what will  it be honeybees she said
the wife ordered
whisky sour
the man ordered flat black
the dog ordered
flat milk
with crackers
and that was that
you cant beat that

but wait
theres more
the cat walks in
all tangled up in fur
the waitress picks it up
and bathes it in a bowl of
bubbly cheery gin

the owner runs  in for her cat
whos seen my Rembrandt black eyed thing
the waitress hands it over
owner smells her cat
and says
you cant beat this café
look
under window
you should write a sign its clear
bubble gum café en liquor shoppe
"all welcome strays fed, cats washed
in bubbles of gin here
Dylan and Dr. Phil welcome here
old lovers welcome here
crying men sit in smoky corner there
who want to
gently
greatly
disappear"

LOVE! LOVE! LOVE! This is delightful & a little bit outrageous & nicely sensory with a ton of fresh details. Your imagination gets the prize here. I love to read such lovely outlandishness becuz it sparks my own rather stodgy brainwaves! *wink! wink!* (((HUGS))) Fondly, Margie

You have described the Writers Cafe that exists in the cyber-connected web clouds!!! Wonderful, whimsical and a delight after some of the sad-a*s stuff I have read since I came back yesterday! THANK YOU!

Lost voice of lost generation. Nicely write down. In very creative order. I can smell smoke and aroma whiskey and also great poetry.

I can smell Charles Bukowski and others famous alcoholics here. But also own unique voice development through your words. There is some nice tense.

Thanks do much for your kind review
Carson McCullers would have loved this poem- reminiscent of her story "The Ballad of the Sad Cafe" ,but eloquently told in much brighter whimsical style. Great characters- dogs & cats soused in gin too! Great form, flow, cadence & rhyme. Great!
