Mask unveiledA Poem by Julie McCarthy (juliespenhere)
The mask She threw
It Lay on wooden grey floor A spent up purple shiny foil It sparkles on that dirty floor A crumpled heap Of dances lipstick and Ballerinas red sore feet Of broken wings andlate night coffee flings And favourite things Of late night fatty burgers And lettuce and carrot sticks Next day as lunch Of reading books so Politically incorrect Of talking people in taxis To only the very very best Of being good But wanting to be bad just once Of making plans And watching slowly turn To unforgotten dust The purple foil it lies somewhere As a cleaner swept it up This time it ended up in garbage Long away In some forgotten trash can Bound for tip somewhere Someone's long ago mask Has been removed She stands proud old Her face aglow Looking up for guidance In some forgotten field In dead of night Alone but truly bare It's wonderful to be At last So bare so raw So old and wise She remembers her purple shiny Mask And draws a deep breath And tarries away quickly neatly wiser bare © 2017 Julie McCarthy (juliespenhere)Author's Note
