memories

A Poem by Julie McCarthy (juliespenhere)

she loved to play
in the sand
the hot sand
then dip and swim in the
blue
a girl of 7
with her dad
on coloured towels
of blue and white
her mothers colours
white and pink
hed take her out
piggy pack
into the deep blue waves

he held her safe
told her not be afraid
there they would dip into the waves
so sure she would not fall
they never knew a better time
her dad and her
in that white frothy squall
the chips and fish from beachside
corner cafe
she would go and get
the paper wrapping food ooh
so deliciously wringing wet
from her wet hair and oil
seeping through the salt would smell

what delicious memories she can go to
of this her precious times
of holidays past
they comfort her in her mind
when lonely times
she herself  may find
so all my memories i can go to
i dont even need a picture frame
they are there
safe within my
old and rattly brain
and no one can take
them and delete
they are on the  live button
in my head but sadly no repeat
