A Poem by Julie McCarthy (juliespenhere)

As if
As if I could
As if I knew
As if you told me
As if you thought
As if I knew
what would happen

the beach
the waves
the sand
the sea
the sky
the clouds
the sun
twas you and me
the bikinis
the indian hippy bags
the long hair
the tanned brown skin
the coconut oil
the fish n chips
from that little beach corner store
in queue along with the surfer boys
gleaming white
teeth
and wavy blonde beach blonde hair
we knew not them but adored from afar

the sandcastles
we played in
the balls we played
upon that sand
as kids we would
run and jump
and neatly land
beach cricket
volleyball
and basketball
our holidays
our childhood
so young and free

your deep blue eyes
your long blonde hair
your skinny hips
your tanned brown skin
like a dolphin in the sea
you would swim
a mermaid on those
rocks around the point
we wold lie and sunbake
and dream our  teen life away

these are the things i remember
of you
so when i see a seagull
come perch a foot away
i know its you
to come and say g'day

tribute to my dear Sister and our chilldhood and teens

This is the most tender tribute I’ve ever read! It reminds me of images fanning thru the mind’s eye, similar to thumbing thru old photos -- fragmented observations in a gush punctuated by a little extra introspection here & there. The longing & the affection can be felt, despite the scarcity of narrative in between a stream of scattered memories. Nicely effective style (((HUGS))) Fondly, Margie
