Almost

Almost

A Poem by Julie McCarthy (juliespenhere)
"

Inspired by csny song almost cut my hair

"
She sat
Just the other day
Nervous as a deer
On heat
Looked in the sparkly
Bright led lit mirror
Music blared
Saw a white face
Red lips
Blonde long locks
To her waist
Her throat was dry
Her tongue parched
May I have a water please
She needed time to think
To re-evaluate her stupid
Decision
To makeover to pixi style
Dyed dark brown
Audrey Hepburn style
The girl swaddled over
In her black tights
And white dirty stained shirt
And black eyeliner to the hilt
with in her hand
Chipped cup
Luke warm water
She drank it fast
Almost threw up
I feel sick sorry
I’ll have to go
I’ll take your card
Thanks so much
She ran out that
Bright lit door
Home lay on
Her unmade bed
And laughed
What the friggin hell
Was I thinking
As she threw all her
Magazines in trash
Her makeover can wait
For just Another day

CSNY, I fondly remember the song.
You engage the vibe at full throttle, then remind us to keep it real.
I like this.

Sometimes that little inner voice tells us not to do what we are about to embark on is a foolish endeavour. It is always good to heed that advice .

Enjoyed reading it flowed to perfect, and so glad she was happy just being simply herself. No magazine needed, carefree and happy. 😊

Aloha Julie, this was such an easy read, had this kind of percussive flow that I really enjoyed. Glad she came to that conclusion too - just be me. Loved the Hepburn reference too timeless style and beauty. Great read. Mahalo, Izzy

i was a girl under 10 in the sixties and in seventies a teen lkove those both eras
i remember the sixties, early sixties...lots of Audrey Hepburn wannabees...

she had a style...this poem also reminds me of how so many people try to look like movies stars, beautiful ad models etc. that ridiculous, unattainable look that is advertised...and then people don't ever think they look good enough...
Glad the speaker decided to trash the magazines...and just be who she was.
