Maid Marian

Maid Marian

A Poem by john l smith
"

dead zone

"

Maid Marian

When Maid Marian walked past a tree

She looked there to see Robin of Locksley

He in his green stockings and pointy hat

Was fussing and fuming, downloading an app

His devise was registering a blank screen

Making him more frustrated than she’d ever seen

Little John offered to give him a hand

Which Marian thought was perfectly grand

But the Merry Men were in a dead zone

And could get no signal on the cell phone

So all decided to put a wrap on the app

Before this app trap caused Robin to snap

Robin has returned to message in an arrow

From his long bow, now the messages all flow

His world of technology has hit a plateau

For his cell phone usage, a serious deathblow

Always wanted to do Robin Hood. ( When I say do, actually mean in the way you've done him. That sounds a bit iffy too. lol.) But to be brought down by technology as Maid Marion was tossing big John, and being merry with the men. Still a legend in my book mind you.

Huh? Cellphones, apps, and archaic weaponry all happening together... in Sherwood Forrest? No wonder there's a dead spot! Coo-coo for Cocoa Puffs!

Very amusing! I love your use of words ... some lovely 'crunchy' assonance and alliteration. At least literature is eternal .... even though it might all be digitalised one day. Can you imagine us all talking in a sort of Morse code?

Very clever - Robin I see is not alone in his frustration with
the new technology.

THIS is what I've missed, being away from the Cafe for over a month! This is delightful word-crafting in rhyme, a particular penchant of mine. I love the way you convey a technical conundrum with fun snappy humor . . . 3rd stanza really kicks it up with an attitude. I've been needing a rhyming infusion to jump-start my thawing creativities once again! (((HUGS))) Fondly, Margie

That was fun Dave. I like the idea that some old fashioned things aren't done better by the introduction of technology. However, communication isn't one of them. Like the idea of old and new being brought together in a poem.

A delightful satire, John. Creative narrative, quizzical imagery, and functional rhyme scheme. I just hope your tale is not prophetic. I never could shoot straight with bow and arrow, and I and don't want to return to olden time shortages. There is never a shortage of frustrations, no matter the era. Robin could never happily adapt to future tech, and we could never choose his low-tech ways. The only thing that doesn't change is human nature. We still have oppressive taxes and corrupt despots.

Please tell me if I stand wrong on understanding this...
Getting not a signal on a cell phone for a second can resemble getting not ample supply of food in a grave luncheon arrangement....this applies to our digitalised arena....
