Used To

Used To

A Poem by john l smith
"

where oh where

"

Used To

I used to go for coffee

At the local cafe

Now it’s at the local clinic

Where I start every day

My I&R needs tending to

My bandages need wrapping new

My bedpan is full of goo

Think I’ve gota tutcha flue

Those pills I pop, I can’t stop

My nose runs on, drop after drop

Over my feet I too often trip

My pacemaker tends to often skip

All the nurses know my name

My diapers collect alota stain

I’ve had needles poked in every vein

My lower back’s in constant pain

I’ve got pointers in my hip

Each eye’s on a separate trip

My lymphatic vessel’s nearly sunk

And not one muscle hasn’t shrunk

From the clinics’ parking lot

The cemetery’s just a hop

And whether weather’s cold or hot

That will be, my next stop
