Another DayA Poem by Justin ObertsStream of Consciousness, unedited, piece on Man's desire for Meaning and its relationship to Self-Actualization.“Another day, another dollar,” Say yourself, as you press your collar Trek to work, hope you make it Through the break, you always make it. Lay you down, so sound to sleep, You pray dear lord, Your soul, he’ll keep. Sometimes you wish you’d die before you wake, And hope your soul won’t be taken but ripped away into silent nothingness. It’s not a plea for a change, But the acknowledgment that nothing’s changed. I’ve looked around, I’ve been so still, But, I all I want now is another thrill. Give me a cycle, I’ll break it in two. Give me a new dream, a throne to crack. Yet when I lay down along my brack, it’s the only thing that cracks. Age, you’ll erase me when my time is gone, regardless of what destinies I’ve done or not done. Then I’ll question, what was the point, And surely life will beckon, “what was YOUR point?” I pray I don’t learn when I die, but listen closely now As it beckons with my cry. I’ve traveled so lonely, listening to the call, Only to realize I was waiting for my own damn voice To Speak.© 2017 Justin Oberts |
