A New Day

By J. W. Thompson

The sun has risen and
Life has given me another day
To be thankful for your love
Although far away

Built on trust our
Relationship is sound
Strengthen with love
That is newly found

Promises made
Until death do us part
The love is given
In the form of our heart

The love is simple
Full and pure
And no problems are there
It can not cure

We opened out hearts
And invited each other in
So together we stand
And together we will win

As we work together
Our problems a test
Our love will still be standing
Despite their best

With our eyes on each others
And working as one
All problems will vanish
Like the setting sun

Facing our problems
And not backing away
Will lead to another
Wonderful day

Each day is special
Each beat of our heart
For together we will stand
And never part

Love filled our lives
And busted our shell
Made it worth living
Got rid of our hell

Pieces were missing
From our lives for a time
Now we found each other
And can correct that crime

When mistakes were made
As most young people do
But we found each other
And our love is true

Is love the answer
Is it really the key
I was meant for you
Like you were meant for me

So the answer is simple
And our love is true
All you have to do is love me
As much as I love you

John,
I truly enjoyed this piece. Guess I'm just a romantic at heart, though it sounds as if you are one happy gentleman. My husband does not write poetry like that to me, but, he does have many other ways to get the point across. I would not have stayed with him for 39 years otherwise.

As you can tell from my work, I am not a rhyme and meter person. I just don't seem to hear the beat in the same manner as one is supposed to. However, that said, there are a couple of places where the meter seems to break down, Stanza One, line two, and Stanza Five, lines two and four. Otherwise, there were only a few misspellings.

Take these comments with about a pound of salt. They are only my opinion. Do with them as you wish.

In the meantime--

He just didn't promise they wouldn't have thorns." (c) Diana Lambson 1996
