So Far

So Far

A Poem by Amber Zoe

Ode to the Military Family

So Far
So far, between us countless days
So far, a debt that’s never paid
A distant voice speaking over the phone
Never seem sad despite feeling so alone
So far, our child is begging me
So far, for her daddy she pleads
Shaken by distance but for them I seem strong
Awaken with the sound of a voice so far gone
Pray for your return
The news torments me
Are you safe I must learn
Your face I want to see
A knock on the door
Always gives me dismay
Were you lost in the war?
When your debts already paid
So far, a night wide awake
So far, is your life soon to take?
The days are so few now tomorrow is here
A smile through a doorway, embrace me my dear
