Violent Seas

Violent Seas

A Poem by Lisa Armstrong

The water surges in violent seas
Abusing an unstable coast.
Shells break, stranded;
Bruised lives on sands of endless moraines.
The past disintegrates in wave's oscillations,
Which batter an intemperate mind,
And seeks purchase on deceptive shores.

Wisdom speaks with caution's voice,
As glory rides a deadly wave.
Enticement concealed in gossamer beauty;
Inconstant and deceptive to nearly every eye.
Fates weave a deadly path
Along the coastal serf;
Brushing pools the imprudent cannot see.

The tides rise with the waxing moon.
Waves enfold the ocean's depths,
In cautious minds;
While siren's song lulls the innocent through a faithless tide.
Unassailable paths, though more removed
Define a safer course.

Beyond the reach of sand's unfaithful shore,
Life surges onward through storm savaged seas
The erosion of the bedrock of the soul,
Dictates not the goal of choice,
But the course of safety above the water's edge.
Away from the insensitive, inconstant, faithless tides,
Whose wreckage shred golden mores.
