A Poem by K. A. Ince
"
On a night spent in each others' arms and the limitations of language.
"

I’m searching for words to impart what you know:
That when we’re together my mind is aglow
When the words meet and the soft kisses join
the heart and the mind and the words simply flow

Many men talk of their girl’s inspiration
(To build on my chest my imagination)
Words are an ersatz, and feeble at that:
Hopeless describing the heart’s affirmation

I feel your hands fighting cold on my shoulders
The end of the night; outside it got colder
Steam on the windows as sparks kindled trust
Never before had I ever been bolder

We lay on your floor and we talked of the past
as we sped away with our feet on the gas
This is how every first date needs to be:
This sprawled-on-your-bed-moving-ever-too-fast

Hold hands on our hearts and our hearts in our hands
I hoped but I knew that you would understand
I barely thought of what I would do next
I knew what to do though not one move was planned

I wake in your room in your arms in your bed
The words flowed so well; I knew not what I said
Your breath on my neck, your hand on my chest
Let’s wish away time so I’d lie here instead

Your smell still remains and your kiss lingers on
In hearts round the world eons after we’re gone
The past fading fast, the future in sight
I’ll see you tomorrow; we’ll move this along

I write away time wishing future meant now
I pray to express what dry words will allow
I realize one thing that begs to be said:
To put us in words cheapens feeling somehow
